If you’re like me, you long for some way to put together an answer to this puzzling issue of suffering. I believe that God has given us enough pieces of the puzzle to help us trust Him even when we don’t have all the information we would like. I found that the basic answers of the Bible are that our good God allows pain and suffering in our world to alert us to the problem of sin, to direct us to respond to Him in faith and hope, to shape us to be more like His Son, and to unite us so that we will help each other. Imagine a world without pain. What would it be like? At first the idea may sound appealing. It is however a reality that all born again believers can look forward to as promised in Rev. 21:1-4 that says; “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” In order for us to appreciate no pain and suffering we must be familiar with it. Our Loving God uses pain and suffering in many ways for many reasons. Mostly To warn us of something worse, This is done individually and sometimes globally.. As we view and wonder about the most recent disasters worldwide we wonder why because the whole world has been touched by it. Could it be possible that God is trying to warn us that something is wrong with this world and that needs our attention to stop the worst from coming? The sorry condition of our planet indicates that something has gone terribly wrong. The suffering we experience and the distress we sense in others indicate that suffering does not discriminate on the basis of race, social status, religion, or even morality. It can seem cruel, random, purposeless, grotesque, and wildly out of control. The seeming unfairness of it all has struck close to each of us at one time or another. You may not like this answer but all of the pain and suffering has been brought on as a result of SIN that was brought into the world by our fore parents, Adam and Eve. They were created by our loving God and put into a perfect environment without all of our present difficulty. They forfeited that privilege when they listened to the hiss of the serpent when he said “Yea hath God said”; Gen. 3:1b and in Gen. 1:4-5 he offered an alternative to what God said. And it says; “And the serpent said unto the woman Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” God offered an Atoning sacrifice for the sins of Adam and Eve through the innocent blood of the two animals that were slain for their skins to be used as coats. He has offered the innocent blood of His Only Begotten Son as an Atoning Sacrifice for the sins of the world to as many as will accept the FREE gift of Salvation. St. Jn. 1:12b The world however has to suffer the consequence of the original sin until God restores everything to His original intended state. This world we know live in is our proving ground and we have another choice to make. Only by making the Right choice will we have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of the Loving God that we now question in His Righteous judgment “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience but He shouts to us in our pains. It is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world” (C.S. Lewis)
If you are a Christian and a victim of personal pain and suffering or you are being touched by a global tragedy remember the words of Paul in (Romans 8:18 )that says; “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” KJV Do not allow Satan to diffuse your image of God by some dismal event that you are suffering or being deeply affected by. Let us remember the words that Job spoke in2:10c and said; “shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?” KJV While searching for answers on this matter I found these words of wisdom by Warren Wiersbe; “God proves His sovereignty, not by intervening constantly and preventing these events, but by ruling and overruling them so that even tragedies end up accomplishing His ultimate purposes” God is sovereign and He has never directed us to understand Him , only to Believe and Trust Him. His ways are not our ways and His ways are past finding out (Romans 11:33-34)
There are plenty of Biblical passages that would suggest God does micromanage the forces of nature such as earthquakes, or the resulting waves that have caused such havoc lately. The prophet Ezekiel believed that God used the tremendous power of nature as a weapon to punish the unrighteous: “Thus says the Lord GOD: I will make a stormy wind break out in my wrath; and there shall be a deluge of rain in my anger.” Likewise the Psalmist catalogues those elements of the natural world that follow God’s commands: “fire and hail, snow and frost, stormy wind fulfilling his command!” (Psalm 148) KJV
From the perspective of a majority of people living in biblical times there was little doubt that God was responsible for every turn of events in the natural world, whether it be drought or flood, earthquake, wind or fire.
Jesus urged people to look beyond the surface of circumstance to find God even in the depths of suffering or pain.
This short response to the age old question of “Why God allows Pain & Suffering has only scratched the surface but I do hope that it has instilled a renewed hope and deepened your level of trust in our All knowing, All powerful and Loving GOD of complete justice and Mercy. He first demonstrated that when He saved us from the world of sin and He has not changed because He is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Heb.13:8). God is God and If You have accepted Him as the Lord of your life don’t let the devil distract you to get you majoring on the minors because that will allow doubt to creep in and you can easily be deceived as Eve was. The hiss of the serpent is still echoing through out the earth because he is doomed for ever and he wants you to join him.(I Peter 5:8) If you have accepted God’s gift of Salvation through His Son Jesus you still have a choice to make and that is to fully trust Him and don’t be distracted by what appears to be unjust and unfair by your standards. God is still in Control and the hairs of the heads of all His creatures are still numbered and He knows what we need. (Luke 12:6-8) is still true.
May God richly bless You.
