It’s the most buzzed about movie right now, and it’s not even out yet – I’m talking about ‘Paranormal Activity 2’. The first installment took in $194 million worldwide and it only cost $15,000 to make! It was also named the Highest Grossing R-Rated Movie of the Decade, which is pretty impressive for a movie that only cost $15,000 to make.
When I first saw ‘Paranormal Activity’ I wasn’t sure what to think – it’s one of those movies that by time you get to the middle you’re thinking to yourself, ‘Why am I watching this?’ but it starts to get better towards the end, which if you look online that seems to be what had everyone buzzing.
Still ’til this day the question has never been answered whether the movie is 100% true or not. Some have said it’s based on “true events” but we all know in Hollywood that means – it happened but now we’re going to add lots of extra events to make it much more interesting.
What seems to be so fascinating about the ‘Paranormal’ franchise is that nothing like it has ever been done before. Sure, we’ve had the movies that have been made with the shaky irritating cameras to try to make it more believable (‘Quarantine’, ‘The Blair Witch Project’) but ‘Paranormal Activity’ is the first movie that goes in depth and actually takes you there, unlike ‘The Blair Witch Project’. It’s much deeper than ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ and ‘Saw’ – it’s more than just a gory and blood drenched killer chasing someone with a knife. ‘Paranormal’ is some-what realistic and makes you ask the question, can this actually happen to me – unlike ‘Saw’ and ‘Scream’, honestly, what are the chances of a killer chasing you around with a knife and a white mask?
So with the second installment of ‘Paranormal Activity’ coming out October 22nd – will you be watching?
