In case the urge has ever struck you to flit around Park Slope Brooklyn wearing wings or carrying a scythe, the Park Slope Halloween Parade 2010 will afford you that opportunity. As reported back in Brooklyn Eagle (1) the theme this year is “Fairy Tales, so come dressed as princes, gnomes, ravens, and sprites.” The Halloween Parade roams down Seventh Avenue on October 31 from 4-9pm. While many young people will be in full-candy mode by that time in the evening, Park Slope still invites all comers. Alive or undead.
At 4pm the costume portion of the evening gets underway and you can imagine that the scene is going to be a wild affair. Look for all the frights to come down “in front of the Secondary School for Law, Journalism, and Research at Seventh Avenue between Fourth and Fifth Streets.” Some of the awards going out at 4pm include “best theme,” “best classic character,” and “best use of materials.”
The main event is the “Annual Park Slope Civic Council Children’s Halloween Parade” and the event really gets going at 6:30pm “at the corner of Seventh Avenue and 14th Street.” Musical acts Paprika, Hearts of Steel, and the Famous Accordion Orchestra are all a part of the evening’s activities. Look also for “oversized puppets…a 20 foot mermaid, sun and moon goddesses, a giant wizard and (the) newest arrival, a giant dragon.”
Everyone is going to come out to Park Slope and have a ghoulish time on Halloween and that’s the real test of a success.
But seriously, if you’re going to carry a scythe, please not a real one.
