I was offered the assignment on ‘My take on the elections in my area’, and I felt like maybe I could add my two cents so here goes. My take on the elections in my area are somewhat diminished by my lack of understanding and honest information. Politicians seem too evasive and dishonest, maybe the media portrays this image or maybe the negativity surrounds all of them because of one, or maybe two bad apples in the bunch. Money can’t buy happiness I’ve heard it said,or jobs, and AC’s contributor: Nancy Tracy sums this up perfectly in her recent articles on our California Governor’s race. We can’t be bought, or can we? I like how Nancy offers an alternative to bribing and spending to get to the top. Awesome article Nancy. I love Jamba Juice by the way, good idea!
A local, neighbor, acquaintance ran for Congress, in our district, in the 2010 primaries and I began to get somewhat interested for once, even though I am a registered voter and vote in every election that I can, I still felt powerless because the issues were confusing and mind boggling. It’s really hard to know who to believe. This local politician, hopeful seemed to have something fresh to offer, although I wasn’t able to put my finger on what that might be, or boast his area reputation because he wasn’t in the political, or public spot light so much before he started to run for congress, being a big land, grape farmer. I just wanted to add also that I was eluded to think that maybe I could do an interview with him and check out his stance on some local issues, gain some knowledge and vote responsibly, like our recent water tax issue, or school cuts, and wasteful spending, but this was not to be. I guess he just got too busy, we all do, I understand. Unfortunately he did not make it in the spotlight for Congressman. I wish him a lot of success in the future if he tries again.
Like any high ranking profession the people who hold these jobs weren’t straight ‘A’ students in school, they might have skated through and bought their way to the top who knows. Popularity and brains seems to be what manipulates or finagles a person’s agenda. Like any politician they too set goals and sometimes those goals are only for their own good. Sometimes the candidates seem real and down to earth and believable, but then something comes out in the wash that pulls the rug out from under them or me. Studying the issues is important and by doing so you hope to walk away with a clear understanding. I really try to study the issues and candidates, but where do you go to find the truth? Wikipedia?
