I am so thankful to have discovered Peking Village II in Fairfax, VA. A few years ago, my local Chinese restaurant went out of business, and I was devastated, due to my fairly regular cravings for food from this culture. Thankfully, due to running an errand at a nearby mall, I found Peking Village II. By sheer coincidence, I looked to my right while making a turn, and saw it in a small mall on the Western side of town. It didn’t look like much from the outside, and neither does it in the dining area. This is a simple, laid back place that won’t be fancy enough for a romantic dinner. Yet if you appreciate Chinese food, that’s of high quality and reasonbly priced, you might just want to become accustomed to this establishment.
Its a bit odd, in that it is right next to a fast food pizza delivery place, however Peking Village II is fine for lunch or dinner. They have a variety of specials, and a huge menu, that will almost leave you shaking your head in amazement. Its over three pages in length, and if there’s any other type of food from China, I would be shocked as they seem to have “covered all bases.” Entrees range from $6-$30, with the higher end including duck and lobster dinners, but you can average around $12 for most meals. I particularly like the Chicken with Broccoli and the Szeuchan Chicken. Some Chinese restaurants will load your meal with MSG and/or vegetables, but this is one where you get whopping portions of beef, chicken, pork, or fish.
Their seafood specialties are incredible. I love the grilled flounder, and while its about $20, you can’t beat the flavor of this “steak from the sea.” The grilled tuna is a bit less, and while not as succulent, it still has more than enough flavor that most will appreciate. Their meals will fill you up regardless of what you order, but be sure to get some spring rolls as an appetizer. These are delicately fried, filled with vegetables, and have a bit of spice to them. They are a bit crunchy on the exterior, but still have that spongy middle that makes them a real treat.
You won’t find better service. As soon as you walk up to the counter, a kind lady will take your order, and the wait time for your meal averages about five minutes. You can save time by calling ahead for a carryout order, and their delivery service is pretty good. The only problem I have with it, is that they only have one driver, and he’s very polite. Unfortunately, due to how busy they get, you might be waiting awhile for his car to show up in your driveway. Also, there sometimes can be a “language barrier” over the phone when placing an order.
That’s a minor disappointment, because everything else about Peking Village II is above average. Its fantastic to have a Chinese restaurant, where you can try new entrees, and enjoy the majority of them without causing your wallet to cry out in pain. They are open from 11 a.m- 10 pm daily, and are located at 10782 A Fairfax Boulevard Fairfax, VA 22030. You can call them at 703-691-9888 for carryout or delivery, or feel free to sit and have a meal in their simple yet quaint dining area. Everyone I’ve recommended to this restaurant has been happy, with plenty of return customers. That alone is proof that this is a worthwhile place, to get delicious Chinese food fast and for a low cost.
