The best part of last night’s election returns was the ouster of the Wicked Witch of the West. And not only because I so disagree with Madam Speaker, but mostly because she is so damned mean. Obama, showing real class and dignity, called to congratulate Boehner and he is to be admired for not acting like Pelosi in refusing to even give the traditional nod from the loser to the winner.
Pelosi shows she has no clue of the tradition of being a gracious winner or a gracious loser. She was not a gracious winner in 2006 and she sure wasn’t even close to gracious in losing last night. True to her broom riding moniker, she spewed and seethed her venomous words with her statement:
“Over the last four years, the Democratic Majority in the House took courageous action on behalf of America’s middle class to create jobs and save the country from the worst economic catastrophe since the Great Depression.“Our Members and candidates ran remarkable campaigns led by the superb leadership of DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen.“The outcome of the election does not diminish the work we have done for the American people. We must all strive to find common ground to support the middle class, create jobs, reduce the deficit and move our nation forward.”
Does Ms. Pelosi grasp the realities versus her rhetoric of “Over the last four years, the Democratic Majority in the House took courageous action on behalf of America’s middle class to create jobs and save the country from the worst economic catastrophe since the Great Depression.” This sentence is the sum total of the issue, and her own cheerleading versus the realities.
I believe the election outcome instead proves her misstatement. The last four years did not demonstrate “courageous action” at all. It was instead an effort to install as much of the long-wished for progressive agenda in as short a time as possible. That is not “courageous action on behalf of America’s middle class . . . .” but it is proof of her plentiful arrogance. Democrats have not “save[d] the country from the worst economic catastrophe since the Great Depression.” It has gotten worse and worse since Obama became president. But let’s recall beginning with the 110th Congress in 2007 and a Pelosi Speaker, the economy headed south.
Only partisans refuse to accept the fact that while president’s lead and suggest, it is the House that decides what will be spent or not; who will be taxed and how much, and where those revenues will go. The House is the sole arbiter in those decisions. President’s sign on or veto, but they do not make the law.
Go back and watch the You Tube videos of Bush calling for reigning in Fannie and Freddie as far back as 2002. See Barney Frank in 2003 tell us any chatter of danger in Fannie or Freddie will lead to a crisis. Go back and listen to Maxine Waters drone on in her usual unintelligible manner supporting Fannie and Freddie and telling us how sound they were under the stewardship of Franklin Raines.
In fairness, none of this is one party’s fault but to hear Democrats tell it, it was all the fault of everyone except them. History is clear and easily demonstrated by video and hundreds of reputable news sources that indeed Democrats covered for Fannie & Freddie’s mismanagement for years before the collapse. It’s ignorance to repeat how all this is Republican’s fault and the willingness of the public to so blithely swallow that line shocks me. The history is dead clear the Pelosi talking points and Democrat cover for their pet programs is one of the major reasons for what we saw late in 2008.
Lastly, if one looks at the photo accompanying the source article, tell me her face doesn’t look cracked in the pic. If her lips were anymore pursed; her jaw any more set; her brow any more locked in disdain, those Botox injections might let loose and whoa Nellie! I truly believe if looks could kill the dawn would have seen 60 or 70 million dead American conservative voters.
Now the only question is will she have the decorum to do as many former Speakers who when they lose the majority, step down immediately? That remains to be seen, but when it comes to customary, polite, genuine and contrite, Nancy Pelosi hasn’t clue one.
Now get on that broom and fly your old Witchy self back to San Fran, Nan!
