From the beginning of our species the desire to be free has been the number one reason for our existence. Freedom to tend to our farms and homes, freedom to own a farm, ranch or home, freedom to raise a family; free just to live.
The United States of America has been the beacon flashing in the night where people seeking freedom can come and experience what we all want, freedom to live. However for decades more and more people who coincidentally were born here, have drifted away from freedom back into slavery. That is ridiculous. Slavery ended with the Civil War. Are you sure about that?
When an able-bodied individual chooses to give up the responsibility of caring and supporting them self to another person or group, that person becomes a slave. According to Dictionary.com slavery means “a condition of submission to or domination by some influence, habit, etc.”
A truly free person can only be free if personal responsibility for one’s own life is assumed. Living under a taxpayer funded government program is not freedom; it is slavery in its purest form. People living under said taxpayer funded government programs are provided the basic necessities right? How can that be slavery?
Receiving food, clothing, and shelter for free may sound appealing, but there are always strings attached. Freedom is not being told where you can live, and what kind of life you can live. We live in a place where there are abundant possibilities, if you choose to be free. Living a meager lifestyle because someone chooses to transfer his or her personal responsibility to someone else is pathetic and unacceptable. The slaves today who live on the backs of the taxpayer are professional couch potatoes accountable to no one and nothing.
The American way of life has always embraced freedom. And Americans have always been proud of the freedoms we are so lucky to possess, but instead of supporting the lazy and unmotivated with bailouts and handouts its time for tough love. It is difficult to understand people who live in a country where anyone can become successful but choose to let someone else decide for him or her the kind of life they can lead? Furthermore why said individuals think they are entitled to forgive their personal responsibility and assume it on others? Back in the day if you didn’t work on the ranch, you didn’t eat. By today’s standards, a ranch hand can sleep in and still show up for breakfast and get fed just like the other ranch hands that woke before sunrise and did their work.
There are a small group of individuals at all levels of our government who love to see more and more of us become slaves. Slaves are easy to control. Free people don’t need others to take care of them; free people do just fine on their own and in fact help motivate others. To climb out of the hole we allowed the government to dig, we need to build the ladder and not wait for the government to do it because they won’t. They like owning slaves.
Thomas Jefferson said it best, “When the people fear the government there is tyranny. When the government fears the people there is liberty.” Just food for thought.
