After stripping wallpaper off of my dining room walls, then having them sprayed with spackle and painted, I was ready to decorate! I love the household decorations that are sold at Pier 1 Imports, so my husband and I took a trip over there to see what they had in stock.
One particular wall hanging caught my eye. It was a large display of ten different metal plates, which look like they were painted onto the plates in botanical themes. Most of the designs were flowers, and the colors were going to be perfect for my dining room. The main colors are beige and tan, but there are accents of sage green, lavender, reds, and dark browns.
The Pier 1 Imports Botanical Plates Wall Decor measures 37 3/4″ wide, 2 1/2″ deep, and 22 1/2″ in height. There are two black metal brackets in the back that hold the hanging up, and these extend from the wall slightly. There are black bars all across the back, which hold each of the plates together, but these are not visible when viewing the wall decor from the front.
These plates do over lap slightly, but they look like someone specifically arranged all of these plates together to make a collage style decoration.
The Pier 1 Imports Botanical Plates Wall Decor retailed for $59.95, which I was planning on paying, however when they rang up at the cash register I learned they were on sale for $39.99. Yay for unexpected surprises! This wall decor adds a really nice touch of color to my wall, and it has a very modern or contemporary look as well. I would say that although it looks more “modern” to me, it would probably be at home in a country style themed home as well.
As far as how well this is made, it is very sturdy and looks like it will hold up well. The plates look like they are welded together, and there is no movement at all between them. They almost look like they are made of wood instead of metal. The shapes are octagon, round, and scalloped, and they are put together in a lovely design.
If you are looking for a bold statement for your wall, and want something that is a bit unusual, this might be just the wall hanging for you. It would look best, I feel, on a larger wall in a larger dining room.
