Oh my goodness, I can hardly address this subject without wanting to punch someone in the face. I hate the concept of piercing a baby’s ears, and every time I see it happening I begin to cry uncontrollably and begin chewing out the offending parents who are maiming their poor tiny baby. The last time I saw a 2 WEEK OLD BABY get her ears pierced at the local cosmetology school, me and my sister went ballistic on this 17 year old mom and had to be asked to leave, the baby wailing in our ears as we stormed out of the salon.
It’s disgusting, plain and simple, and I have no clue why it’s considered acceptable in society. You can’t take your baby into the ER with a bump on the noggin without raising eyebrows of the doctors and nurses suspecting child abuse, but you can permanently place holes in your child’s ears with a gun with a needle in it, place metal in your child’s ears, and basically deform them without their consent and nobody says a word.
My biggest complaint against piercing young children’s ears is that the procedure is painful and can lead to future infection. I remember bawling getting my ears pierced, and I didn’t even want them done. My grandma made me do it so my sister could get hers done. To this day I never wear earrings and I have those retarded holes in my ears that I resent.
Why don’t you just get your baby a tattoo they’ll have to live with the rest of their lives while you’re at it? Why not pierce their tongue or their naval so they already have it over with? What if 5 years down the line your child doesn’t want their ears pierced anymore and are stuck with the holes in their ears for life? It’s cruel and unnecessary- your child’s body is not yours to toy with- what’s next, permanent eyeliner on little girls so you can tell a girl baby from a boy baby? Why not? You’re already willing to put them through extreme scary pain to put earrings in their tiny, new ears for your own selfish satisfaction.
Kids should decide what they want to do with their own bodies, period. If your 8 year old comes to you and wants their ears pierced, fine. Don’t make the decision for them and get their ears pierced when they’re not even eating solid foods yet.
There is no medical reason for a child to have their ears pierced. Most parents can barely stand to watch their poor babies getting necessary vaccinations, while others are willing to get their kids’ ears pierced and listen to them wail and cry for a COSMETIC reason. Why torture your baby? Because you think it’s “cute”? Gimme a break!
It should be child abuse.
