The Pittsburgh Steelers will travel to Baltimore to face their AFC North rivals the Baltimore Ravens December 5th. The Pittsburgh Steelers were lucky to escape Buffalo with an overtime win over the Buffalo Bills in their last game and now they have yet another Sunday Night Football game against their AFC North nemisis the Baltimore Ravens.
Pittsburgh Steelers Offense vs Baltimore Ravens Defense
Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers offense have not been hitting on all cylinders consistently since his return. One issue is the Pittsburgh Steelers failure to be consistent with their running game. The running game is averaging 118 yards per game but in some games they have not been able to impose their will on the ground.
Not having a consistent running game is not the only problem for the Pittsburgh Steelers offense. They are only averaging just over 200 yards per game through the air and their opponent this week, the Baltimore Ravens are only giving up 210 yards per game. Watch Hines Ward and who he matches up with in this game. This will be a key to this game.
The Baltimore Ravens have actually struggled a bit since the return of Ed Reed to the secondary. With Reed and Ray Lewis on the field at the same time it was once the perfect combination. This season Ed Reed has been slow to pick up his game after a six game layoff. Look for the Baltimore Ravens to hit hard on defense in this game and blitz Roetlisberger on a regular basis. The Baltimore Ravens defense has the edge over the Pittsburgh Steelers offense.
Pittsburgh Steelers Defense vs Baltimore Ravens Offense
The Pittsburgh Steelers defense was unbeatable in the beginning of the season. Now there are obvious holes on the front defensive line and their linebackers appear to be tentative, unlike the early part of the season. Aaron Smith is a key loss on the line but Troy Polamalu has made it his cause to pick up the slack on this team. They are still giving up just 63 yards per game on the ground which is first in the NFL. The Pittsburgh Steelers pass defense is a little below average allowing 240 yards per game.
Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens offense has been a huge disappointment this season. The wide receiver combination of Anquan Boldin, Tj Houshmandzadeh and Derrick Mason has not helped Flacco to become a top ten quarterback as of yet.
Flacco is only averaging just 230 yards per game through the air but that isn’t the only problem. Ray Rice and the Baltimore Ravens running game has only been averaging 116 yards per game. The running game has produced a few good games recently but they are still not up to last years production. The Pittsburgh Steelers defense has the edge over the Baltimore Ravens offense.
