As Hurricane Earl approaches the East Coast of Florida, Labor Day vacationers are hit with the dilemma of venturing out for the holidays. Luckily it isn’t necessary to cancel your vacation this year; there are several fun alternatives for the whole family.
While Hurricane Earl grows in category strength and threatens to either hit or brush by the Coast of Florida, it might be advantageous for travelers to explore the fun and beauty of inland America or their own backyard.
It might not seem like it but with the right tweaking, your own backyard could be the perfect spot for a family Labor Day Staycation. There are fun family memories that can be had by inviting family and friends to enjoy the unofficial end of summer.
Have a Cookout: Outfit your back yard with a BBQ grill, an affordable temporary pool, a few tiki lamps, misting machine, music, good food and friends. If you don’t have time to purchase a kiddie or small size pool, invest in a slip and slide or water games for the kids. Beating the heat is a MUST for summer time parties; schedule your outdoor fun time later in the day so that you can avoid the burn of the noontime sun. Don’t forget the citronella candles to ward of pests and uninvited guests.
City, State and Federal Parks are an often forgotten venue for enjoying an outing. Many of the Parks in United States Park System have access to inland beaches, swimming, boating and fishing and those parks can be accessed for rather inexpensive entry prices.
For those travelers that have a little extra travel time, Niagara Falls, Disney World, The Grand Canyon and the Great Lakes, all offer up the opportunity to create warm family memories.
Don’t forget to give back, remember that you are blessed and privileged and that there are others that may not be as fortunate. There are many charitable things that you can be involved in this Labor Day, such as helping with the Gulf Coast Clean-up or volunteering at a local Homeless or Food Shelter.
