You know those thick plastic bags, the ones with a zipper, that you’ll often get when you purchase a new sheet set? That plastic, or similar plastic, is so useful when it comes to making a really unique gift bag for nearly any occasion. The plastic is easy to see through so you can use it to make a window that features most any image from a cartoon character to a scene in the woods right on the gift bag.
Select an ordinary gift bag with a theme or color you like. The bag must be at least a little larger than a small paper plate. Use that paper plate as a pattern for cutting the window in the bag. Use a regular size paper plate for a really large gift bag or a dessert paper plate for a smaller bag.
Position the paper plate on the center of the inside of the bag. If you use something that will easily erase off the bag, like chalk, you can draw around the plate on the outside of the bag, which is a little easier. After drawing around the plate, cut the circle out, but make it slightly smaller, all the way around.
Use the cutout circle to cut the plastic piece for the window. Cut the plastic a little larger, all the way around, than the cutout. From the inside, use glue or clear tape to attach the plastic piece over the hole.
Use a birthday party plate, that has an image of a princess, a superhero, or other character, or glue a picture onto the plate. The picture can be a cutout from a calendar, magazine or even printed fabric. It doesn’t necessarily have to have a character; the image can be stripes, polka dots or another choice.
From the inside of the bag, place the paper plate over the plastic that’s around the hole. Apply glue to the edges of the plate then center it over the plastic. The recipient can admire the view through the fake window you’ve created just for him or her!
There are additional things you can do to make the windows look different. One example is for a Christmas gift bag. Just before gluing the paper plate to the plastic window, place a handful of Styrofoam beads on the plastic, then glue the plate on over them. Now when people look through the window they’ll see a snow scene! Use glitter, tiny sequin and foil confetti in the same manner. The gift bags are unique and will be truly appreciated by the recipient!
