The Underdog: Toronto Raptors
With the departure of franchise player Chris Bosh people are all ready to completely write the raptors off. ESPN has slated them as the least talented team that isn’t even going to win 20 games. I find this quite laughable and ludicrous, true the Toronto Raptors went into last season with playoff seasons and fell short. But needless to say there were plenty of good moments to make us believe that they would be better than predicted. The raptors of last year were simply a messy team, they didn’t play good defense and they had numerous problems with Hedo Turkolu, not that problem is rectified I don’t see any chemistry problems with the ball club. The raptors are advertising themselves as a young run and gun teams with speed, with the starting lineup of Jarret Jack, Barbosa, Weems, Johnson, and Bargs I truly believe that this is going to be a team that’s going to win more games than the Nets of last year. In basketball nothing is written in stone, so we shouldn’t count out these raptors. So far this season they are 2-2 in the preseason showing glimpse of brilliance in the 50+ point win over the phoenix suns. While I’m not saying that the loss of Chris Bosh wasn’t significant I believe the media and all NBA fans have overvalued Chris Bosh and his production. He’s a solid offensive player but in no way a franchise player. The raptors have worked hard to minimize the loss of Chris Bosh by re-signing aggressive rebounders like Amir Johnson, Reggie Evans and Joey Dorsey. Those 3 combine may never have the talent and that Chris Bosh once embraced the fans of Toronto with, but those 3 will put a fight, so will the Toronto Raptors. My predication for this season is that the Toronto Raptors will finish 8th place in the east and make the playoffs, yes make the playoffs. Demar will have a great sophomore season and Ed Davis will develop. Their record would be around 40-42 the exact same as last year and this ladies and gentlemen will take the entire world by surprise.
