There are more ways to pray than any book could fill, but thought I would offer a few suggestions.
What is prayer?
There are many answers that have deep spiritual wisdom. I would love your ideas on this question. For me prayer is connecting and being mindful of the presence of Jesus and communicating with him in some way. Also, expressing my love and faith in him.
Few examples of how we can pray.
Dance- When I facilitate a retreat I use spontanious dance as a form of prayer. I play Christian music and however I feel the music calling me to move I surreder my movements to expressing the spirituality in the song. There aren’t any right or wrong movements and they aren’t planned in any way.I took a class on how to dance as prayer. It took some time not think of a movement, but evenutally I was able to let my heart and soul lead me. What a freedom! It comes from my deepest self and it expresses my feelings and what I want to express to Jesus in a way which no other prayer can.
Nature- Oh what a blessing nature is!! This form of prayer is so easy and can be done almost any time of the day. Even the baren trees in winter have something to say. It reminds me how stripping myself of all my roles, wants, and ego, will lead me to the a deep connection with my true self and Jesus. The ocean can be a powerful meditation prayer. When I am at a beach when it is quiet I sit in the sand and try and let any thoughts or feelings fly by and just BE with creation. Be with Jesus. No agenda, no pre-conceived ideas what reponse I may or may not get, just me and finding Jesus in the ocean, trees, birds, sounds, mist of the water, feeling of the sand, etc.
Silence- We have so many sounds and noises each day. Cars, television, radio, people talking etc. I believe we need silence sometimes to refresh our spirituality and look at ourselves honestly but with love.Where do our ego come into play today? Where did I find Jesus around me and within me? Where was I able to bring Jesus to others? Some questions to start our prayer and then letting the questions and answers go and being with Jesus. He is right beside us. Have you ever been so comfortable with someone that you don’t have to say anything and you just enjoy being with each other and maybe hugging or holding hands? No words are needed. That is what this form of prayer is like.Jesus will give us what we need.At times I haven’t felt his presence yet I have a feeling of peace and are renewed. Is that not Jesus?
These are some ideas. If you like could you share some ideas on how you pray?
