Everyone knows about it. If it’s brunch and it’s the weekend, most likely there are people in the Castro walking around the neighborhood without any clothes on. It’s all just part of the normal experience and local cultural flavor of the neighborhood. Everyone has a “there’s nothing to see here” attitude and goes about their business.
However, most people only expect to see this on the weekends or during special festivals in the Castro. In my experience, it might be a good thing to share with visiting friends and relatives that we have nudity and exhibitionism to expect at any time in the Castro – even boring weekdays.
I was out at a weekday appointment in the Castro last week and saw our brunch weekend friends out enjoying the warm weather. After all, it’s not only clothed residents of Castro that enjoy a 10 AM cup of tea at a local café while reading their daily newspaper.
My only suggestion on public nudity in the Castro? Bring a towel with you. Those benches on Market St. have splinters. To learn more about exhibitionist culture in your neighborhood, visit the FAQ at the Folsom Street Festival.
