This is a tutorial for a winter themed craft suitable for all ages, but is geared towards preschoolers. Allow older children to do the cutting by themselves. If you are working with younger children, you should precut the pieces.
Construction paper (black,white,orange)
This is a great non-holiday winter craft and it allows for a lot of creative expression!
The first step of this craft is to cut out the pieces to make the snowman. Out of the black construction paper you or the children should use the hole punch to make 10 circles per snowman. These circles will be used for the eyes, mouth, and buttons. Also on the black construction paper cut a tophat and 2 arms.
With the white paper you will cut 3 different sized circles (small, medium, large). These will be used for the body of the snowman. Also out of the white paper you can cut a strip to be the snow on the ground. If you would like you can also cut some small pieces to look like falling snow. The last piece you need to Cut out is the nose. For this use the orange paper to make it a “carrot” nose!
Now the fun starts! Tell the children to first glue the body of the snowman onto their paper. Once the body is glued down it is time to make glue the face, arms, buttons and hat on. It is fun to see all of the different face combinations the children make.
Don’t forget to write the childrens’ names on the back of their papers! Happy teaching!
