The episode of Mythbusters that Obama is appearing on is Archimedes Solar Ray. The president will challenge Mythbusters hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman to revisit an ancient myth about Archimedes, a Greek scientist and polymath. The controversial myth was that Archimedes used mirrors and light reflected by the sun to set fire to an invading Roman fleet. The Mythbusters promised that they prepared to test this myth in a way they’ve never been able to before.
Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman were present for the President’s “Educate to Innovate” event in November, 2009. Educate to Innovate kicked off the Administration’s campaign to promote awareness for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The December 8 episode of Mythbusters is part of an initiative called ‘Be the Future.’ Launched by Discovery Communications, ‘Be the Future’ includes a science block for kids called Head Rush, which airs on Science Channel.
Obama has utilized television and social media to advance his campaign and his presidential platform. He successfully made use of You Tube for his 2008 run for president. Obama also made a historic appearance on the ABC talk show The View, hosted by Barbara Walters.
