Fall, you just can’t beat it. It is not too hot out to enjoy out of doors activities. It is not so cold that it keeps you huddled under the blankets. Better yet is the wonderful scenery that is a miracle in itself. Fairmont Park in Philadelphia, Pa is a great place to enjoy the wonders of the season of change. Fairmont park is actually now a park system, which includes over sixty different parks and 9,200 acres. It is considered the oldest and largest park in the country*. Because of the warmer climate than other areas outside Philadelphia, like the Pocconos, you can continue to watch the fall foliage into November here.
Prettiest Fall Foliage Route in Philadelphia-Fairmont Park System-Wissahickon Valley Park
This is a beautifully preserved park with amazing views all year round. The fall foliage and events are breathtaking. You can enjoy the scenery yourself or with family or friends without participating in their fall group activities if you choose. A wonderful place to wander and just look at the beauty of fall that is surrounding you.
If you choose a group hike or activity, Wissahickon Valley Park has what is called Autumn Trail Ambassador Hikes. Some of these hikes are:
The Heart of the Park
Lower Forbidden Drive
Ecology of the Wissahickon Gorge
The Spirit and Science of
Wissahickon Creek Waters
If you visit the Friends of the Wissahickon fall 2010 news letter, it will tell you all about these hikes on page seven. I recommend visiting this page before going on any of these structured hikes beause they are very informative about each hike and what physical ability you will need to enjoy these hikes.
Whether you choose to go it alone, or with a structured group, I truly believe you will be awed by the sheer beauty of the fall foliage here at Wissahickon Valley Park.
