Always eat before you leave home for a holiday party or celebration. By eating ahead of time, you won’t feel the need to fill up on food and treats at the party.
If you are traveling for a party or get together, pack snacks you can eat ahead of time. This can include some nuts, fiber filled energy bar or fruit.
If you’re faced with eating a full meal at a holiday party or get together, begin the meal with a glass of milk or water. This will ease your appetite. Begin the meal eating a salad or fruit. Take your time to chew each bite. Then keep the meal portions small. The salad should fill you up, which means you’ll eat less. This means fewer calories. Stay on your diet while still enjoying all the wonderful foods.
If you’re faced with a buffet style meal, use the smallest plate available. Load up on fruits and vegetables with small portions of other holiday foods.
Choose your drinks wisely. It’s easy to load up on calories from alcohol. While you would be loading up on calories from alcohol, you may find yourself over eating from food too. Keep control of the situation by limiting your alcohol intake. Stick to water or club soda while at holiday parties or get together.
Be sure to remember the reason you’re at the party or get together. If it’s a work related party, mingle with your co-workers and get to know their spouses. If it’s a family get together, catch up with other family members. When you focus on the reason of the party or get together, you’re less likely to focus on the food.
Don’t forget to go for a walk. Grab some family members and go for a walk after the family dinner. If the party was the night before, get up and go for a walk. No matter if you stuck to your plan or you ate a little to much, it’s always a good time to get up and get moving.
