Oh no- you’ve got a cold, and you don’t want to spread your cold around to everyone else. Pretty hard when you’re the Mom- unofficial cook, cleaner, and picker upper of the house. You can’t quite hole yourself up in your room for 2 weeks until your cold disappears, but you really don’t want to give it to your husband, or even worse, your kids. Here are the best tips to avoid spreading your cold to everyone else in your house when you don’t have anywhere to hide.
Give your husband a call and send him to the store for disinfectant wipes, disinfectant spray, hand sanitizers, tissues and a face mask. Don’t forget the Airborne! You want to take the best precautions possible to avoid giving your cold to everyone else.
Wear the face mask when cooking. Remember swine flu, when everyone was wearing face masks? They really do help to keep your germs and sneezing off of other people, particularly food. You may feel ridiculous, but it works.
Wipe down everything in your house with the disinfectant wipes. Your doorknobs, the stove, the fridge, the TV remote, your computer, anything that you have touched, coughed on, or sneezed on, to keep the cold germs at bay. Spray the rooms often, especially the bathroom, where you keep running to for tissues the most.
Sanitize every time you blow your nose or sneeze, and have your household using the sanitizer often as well.
Throw your tissues in the garbage, don’t just leave them on the counter, table, couch, chair, etc. These tissues full of your infected snot and saliva will permeate the air, and can make your family sick.
Avoid picking up your kids while you’re sick, smooching them, or sitting right next to them. Sad but true, these germs are easy spreaders. Same goes for your significant other. No kissing on the mouth, unless they want to get sick as well and infect the whole family.
Break out the Airborne, Vitamin C, echinacea, etc to boost everyone’s immune systems to better fight against a cold. You need to take them, too, to get rid of your cold faster. Whether they want to take them or not, get these immune system boosting products in your family’s bellies.
You need to take care of yourself too, if you want to prevent spreading the cold to everyone else. The quicker you can get rid of your cold the better, so make sure you’re eating, drinking plenty of fluids, taking immune boosting vitamins, and drinking lots of herbal tea to get better. Get rest where you can, and the sooner you can get over your cold, the better chance you have that your kids or husband won’t come home sniffling and start it all over again.
