The Ford Fusion Hybrid and the Toyota Prius are both top of the line in mid sized fuel efficient cars. Deciding which one you would like, however can be a bit hard. Similar pricing and features tend to make valuing one of the other more than a little difficult. Personally while they are both great cars I tend to prefer the Toyota. Here’s why.
The Toyota Prius is priced at $27,256 and gets 51/48 mpg. The car has a spacious interior that is best suited for a family of four and comes with more storage space then other hybrids. The steering does suffer a bit as it feels a bit like steering on a car game but the driving experience is mostly authentic to that of a non-hybrid car. The car is highly durable and after having to factory recalls fixed, is quite reliable and competitive.
Ford Hybrid Fusion
Priced at $27,492 with 41/36 mpg and was the 2010 North American Car of the Year. Comfortable interior built with high quality material. Slightly less spacious then the Prius and has no real room for large objects should you go shopping or move. The driving experience is almost exactly similar to that of a non-hybrid car and the steering is genuine as well. The car performs quite well, very good safety airbags and brakes and very durable and reliable.
Overall the two cars are quite similar. The Ford Fusion received a #1 Affordable Mid-Size Car Rating while the Prius received #3 on the same chart. Prices are quite similar but after Toyota lowered the price of the Prius, it is actually slightly cheaper than the Fusion.
Toyota has more space, better durability, and a slightly lower rate of needing to be repaired. The gas mileage is also better though it offers slightly less on the performance and the aesthetics of the car are not quite as good as those of the Fusion.
Stats Fusion Prius
MPG 41/36 51/48
Comfort 9 8
Durability 9 10
Safety 9 9
Now as you can see the Prius has better gas mileage and durability but the Fusion is slightly more comfortable and pleasing to the eye. For a family of four or i would definitely recommend the Prius. You have more room, better safety, and better gas mileage combined with a slightly lower price. Overall a great bargain.
