The Pumpkin Spice Latte is one of Starbucks most famous drinks. This year on Twitter it became a trending topic weeks before they released it. To most people, Fall equals Pumpkin treats! And the Pumpkin Spice Latte is one of my absolute favorite things about the season.
According to Kelly, a product manager for Starbucks, this is the 7th year they have carried the Pumpkin Spice Latte. For a 16 oz. grande, you pack 380 calories, 13g of fat, and 49g of sugar! Last year they offered a sugar-free version of the seasonal drink but so far this year they haven’t mentioned it. It is made with a signature espresso blended with cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, steamed milk and whipped cream. You can also order it with nonfat or soy milk to cut the calories a little. I get it with soy milk and it is still delicious!
If you want to make it an extra special pumpkin day, get one of their pumpkin cream cheese muffins made with real pumpkin seeds and a cream cheese center. It’s a great (fattening, delicious) way to start the day!
So what makes the Pumpkin Spice Latte so popular?
Maybe it’s the fact that Starbucks offers it so it’s well known, or that fall reminds us of pumpkin and spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. But I think the biggest draw to this popular drink is the rarity. Take McDonald’s for example. About once a year they offer the McRib sandwich for a limited time, and during that limited time people flock to McDonald’s to order one. Not because they are so delicious, but because they are only out for a short time. We must go buy them because who knows when they will be out again!
That’s what I think about the Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks. No doubt it is phenomenal and one of my favorite drinks from there. I love all things pumpkin, so that’s a given. But during this time of year, I frequent Starbucks much more than the rest of the year because I know I only have about 3 months to enjoy my favorite drink.
