I have been a fan of Tokidoki and Sephora for years. Imagine my surprise and delight to see that there was an exclusive deal between the two for a makeup collection. Tokidoki had teamed up with major makeup brand Smashbox a few years ago, but this was an entirely new and exciting venture.
After browsing through their new makeup selection, I quickly found that a lot of the colors and products were not for me. If you have read any of my earlier makeup reviews, you’ll know that while I am a fan of bright colors, they are a no-no in a professional environment. Tokidoki is known for being adorable and influenced by Japan’s anime/J-Pop culture; while I work for a Japanese company, I can’t very well show up to work every day looking like a backup dancer on Gwen Stefani’s “Harajuku Lovers” tour.
Although the makeup offerings were not for me, I found something that I had to have: the Pittura brush set. This set consists of three different brushes: an eyeliner brush, an eyeshadow brush, and a crease brush. It just so happened that I was in the market for a good makeup brush set, so of course I snatched this up.
These makeup brushes are bursting with cuteness. Each brush has a unique character topper and design around the body of the brush. The brushes themselves are dyed to be color-coordinated, as well. Love it!
The crease brush is black and lime green and features a topper of Adios (Tokidoki’s rendition of the Grim Reaper). He’s wearing a cute little lime green ball cap with the brim pushed up. The bottom of the brush is dyed a brownish-black color. The body of the brush is printed with Tokidoki’s exclusive Sephora print; this print is punk rock-inspired.
The eyeshadow brush is white and baby blue and features a topper of Mozzarella (Tokidoki’s cute little girl that’s dressed in a cow costume). The bottom of the brush is dyed a baby blue color. The body of the brush has a cute little print that includes a lot of the Moofia (a dairy-inspired bunch of anthropomorphic milk cartons and kids in cow outfits).
The eyeliner brush is white and pink and features a topper of a new character named Donutella. She’s got cute hair and two little donuts as pigtails. The bottom of the brush is dyed pink. The body of the brush includes a cute little scene with all sorts of yummy treats (like donuts, ice cream, etc) and includes new characters that are sweets-inspired.
The quality of all the brushes is top-notch. I really never knew the importance of having a good brush set until I got these little gems. One of my favorite things about this brush set, which I know a lot of other ladies are griping about, is the toppers on each brush. They provide a nice weight and help me to distribute my eyeshadow or liner evenly. I don’t feel that they are too heavy or get in the way, but your experience with them might be different.
The bristles on the crease and eyeshadow brushes are densely packed, yet soft. They pick up a good amount of eyeshadow and don’t produce a lot of “fallout” or loss of eyeshadow on the way from the compact to my face. I am able to distribute color evenly across my eyelids. The eyeliner brush picks up color and applies eyeliner evenly. This brush isn’t as soft as the other two, but eyeliner brushes are supposed to be stiff to insure that a straight line can be drawn. It’s not so stiff that it will scratch your eyelid like some of the cheaper eyeliner brushes available.
These brushes are available on Sephora.com or in Sephora stores. The pricetag is currently $36 dollars. I say that they are worth every penny and must-have for any Tokidoki/makeup addict!
