Unhappy with a June 14th decision by City Council to give oversight powers to the city manager, 400 Ferndale residents signed a petition in protest. The petition has sparked an election day proposal to determine whether or not the city manager or the city council will oversee four city department heads.
The departments include the fire chief, the police chief, the city clerk, and the city attorney. The department heads had reported directly to city council since the city charter was adopted 83 years ago.
A discussion of the proposal took place on October 23rd at the Ferndale Public Library.
