Some thoughts from last night’s episode:
Well, Shawn and Jules are now officially a couple. I still don’t know how that is going to affect the show and I am hoping it isn’t a negative impact. But, I do have to say this; that was one of the funniest love scenes I have ever seen. My wife fell asleep on the couch but I made sure this show was recording to our DVR just so she can watch it.
That being said, I was actually a little disappointed it was so easy. Not only did Jules end up in Canada with Shawn rather than Italy with Declan; she broke up with her former boyfriend off camera. I would have thought, since she did apparently have feelings for Declan too, there would be a bit more to it.
Even though she dumped Declan without fanfare, I hope he still has at least a small role in the series. After all, he knows Shawn’s secret and, now that Shawn has taken Juliet, he would make a heck of a bad guy.
Another character I hope we see more of in future episodes is Cary Elwes’ Pierre Despereaux. He’s a character that is technically a bad guy but you can’t help but love him. I love the fact he is now heading to the United States to face charges because that sets up future storylines.
I actually loved the investigation in this episode; both because of Elwes’ performance and because it was a heck of a mystery. I knew, the second that crime boss was blamed (with about 20 minutes to go); they were on the wrong trail. But, I didn’t even come close to guessing who was really behind everything.
I was, however, disappointed Lassiter didn’t have more of a role in this episode. Obviously, his character is going to be limited because it is a different country. But, the series seems to be making him more of a background character than a major player.
