One of the boondoggles of leftist desires for sure is to be found in the move for public transportation. I know some may disagree and puzzle, but hang on and when I am finished I hope all but the “refusing to believe” will see my point and perhaps agree with me.
The United States is the beacon of personal freedom for the entire world. One of the definers of said American freedom is our love affair with private vehicles. Per capita, there are more motor vehicles in the US than anywhere else on this “Third Rock From The Sun.” The private ownership of a motor vehicle is freedom personified. Wanna go to Bumf*#%, Egypt (BFE)? Betcha there ain’t too many “public transport” vehicles out there with BFE as their destination, although oddly BFE is where this entire nation will be if progressives are left to do as their stilted vision imagines.
Let’s say we live in the socialist haven on the model of the USSR. Only the few, the proud, the useful Bolshevik had a private auto in the USSR. Remember the photos from Moscow in the 70’s and 80’s? Large, wide avenues leading to the Kremlin and more pedestrians and bicycles than autos? Remember? But the Soviets had one of the world’s largest reserves of petroleum, so why not more cars? I mean they had plenty of raw fuel for cars aplenty, yet it was instead trains, trains and more trains. Fine. I like trains. But in a closed and less than free society, freedom of individual movement was nigh on impossible unless one walked or had a bicycle they were willing to peddle from Vladivostok to Moscow — 6000 miles for the geographically confused.
If one wanted to move from Moscow to Kiev in the Ukraine, they had to take a train, which again, is fine, but what if one wanted to go on a different schedule than the trains run on? Let’s translate this to America.
If one wishes to go from Chicago to Louisville, if they have personal and private transport they can choose their route, their schedule and all other manner of choices to suit their schedule or lack of schedule…some like to meander, ya know. But if the ONLY choice is public, government scheduled, controlled and provided transport the traveler is at the whim of government, no? CONTROL! Oh well, what other choice is there? None in a system provided by others. See the beauty of American freedoms? We go when, where and as often or not as we wish and with no one monitoring or hamstringing our movements.
Public transport…that provided by government fiat, will have the complete opposite effect. I will go where government allows me to. If I want to go to a place not on the main line it may take me three or four times longer to get there if I must rely on schedules of national transport systems. But the real dirty little secret is how public transport can be manipulated to suit government. I am not a conspiracy type, but can reader’s see how government having complete dominion over your vehicle movements is the epitome of control, loss of personal freedom, potential usurpation and despotism just waiting in the wings to manifest at the first opportunity?
What might have happened if the Beck 8-28 rally had to rely on public transport to get the 500K folks to the Mall that day? If government opposed the event they could easily hamstring the event by locking down, slowing, etc, public transport. What if they were to let it occur, but very small in attendance? They could have slowed train schedules, side boarding engines and passenger cars, etc, and feign ignorance as to the “log jam” that would conveniently be “Unfortunately, out of our control…we’re working to fix the problem.” Can ya hear ’em now? I can!
Government control of public transport and having us become almost totally reliant upon it is a tool of progressives…read their literature. They are totally about control of individual choice for the good of the collective. Anyone think an anti-government rally on Tea Party Day 15 months ago could have easily been construed by government as “NOT good for the collective?” See my point?
Sure, I’m all for green and saving fuel, but not when government is in charge and for something as logistically difficult as nationwide transport and coordination, who better than government, right? They will shove this bill of goods down our throats in yet another example of doing what’s best for us, cause ya know, we don’t make good individual decisions. We need to be “directed” to the choices progressive and intrusive government prefers.
This is one of those issues that has as many pitfalls and potential issues for American freedoms as it does possible benefits. I know to those from the other side of the aisle this is crazy paranoia, but then again, if the government, the education system, media and the unions were under conservative control, I’ll bet we’d hear an entirely different point of view from lefties. I take my Constitutionally guaranteed freedoms dead serious. I will not give up my freedoms for comfort. The Founder’s were very adamant on this point and I took them deadly serious.
I would rather live in a shack on a mountain than in the lap of luxury in a society where someone else were the arbiter of what’s best for me. Where someone else directs and demands for the sake of the collective. Where my personal freedoms and autonomy are given over for a cushy, guaranteed existence. I would rather be a hermit and free than to lose my freedoms and autonomy. I value my individualism and right to self determination far above luxurious or at least a “guaranteed” existence.
Oh, and off topic, but have reader’s heard the admissions from Paul Krugman that of course their will be “death panels” in Obamacare to make it work?” (paraphrased) Yeah, and I want these idiots to direct and control my personal movements? Know what they can kiss, and precisely where to pucker up and plant it?
Every bit of autonomy I lose is power they gain. Keep your eyes on ’em. Observation and the light of day is for most all vermin, the enemy. They are blood suckers and like their more honest kinsmen, Dracula and his crew, fear the light, the scrutiny and the power we have with two things – knowledge and freedom. Never give up either or they will succeed in leaving us dessicated.
