The fleur de lis image has become quite a popular accent in home décor styles. This gorgeous purple and gold fleur de lis lampshade project adds this classic symbol to your space very inexpensively and very easily. Simply create and install on your favorite existing lamp.
For this project, you will need (per lampshade)
– One paper lampshade big enough to fit the existing lamp
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Rich Plum
– Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in 14K Gold
– Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive
– Five inch or larger fleur de list style stencil
– Craft knife
– Self healing mat
– Craft paper or a dissembled paper bag
– Masking tape
– Newspaper or a large drop cloth
Cover the space in which you will be crafting this project with a large drop cloth and/or several sheets of newspaper. Very carefully prime the outside of the paper lampshade with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Dry for a couple hours before continuing with the project. Paint the outside of the shade using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Rich Plum. Allow the lampshade to set for an hour before adding a second coat of purple colored paint. Leave the lampshade to dry for two or more hours before proceeding.
Lay the cardstock flat onto the self healing mat. In pencil, trace a five inch or larger fleur de lis style stencil. Cut out the design using a craft knife. Discard the cutout pieces and keep the remaining outside cardstock.
Attach the cardstock to the side of the paper lampshade with masking tape. Cover any remaining area on the lampshade using masking tape and either craft paper or a dissembled paper bag. (The only exposed area should be the fleur de lis image.) Make sure neither the cardstock or the craft paper can be easily moved around.
Spray the exposed fleur de lis image with Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in 14K Gold. Wait thirty minutes, add a second coat of gold paint, and dry for two hours. (Add more gold paint, if needed, so that the purple does not show through.) Let the lampshade dry overnight before removing the paper and installing on your favorite lamp.
TIP: This can easily become an NFL New Orlean’s Saints style lampshade by using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black instead of purple.
