Hollywood actor Randy Quaid and his wife Evi Quaid have been collared and cuffed again.
The Quaids were picked up on the evening of September 18th and booked for burglary. Apparently, the couple of Quaids had set themselves up as squatters, residing illegally in the guest house of their previous home in Montecito, California.
Although Evegenia (Evi) Helena Quaid and Randy Quaid claimed to have owned the property for almost two decades, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department records revealed that another party had bought the home in 2007 from a third-party seller (who had purchased the property from the Quaids several years prior). The property in question is located in the 1300 block of East Mountain Drive, according to Santa Barbara County sheriff report (dated September 18th).
Apparently, the current property owner had complained about the uninvited tenants and filed a complaint for a citizen’s arrest. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department attempted multiple times to find the Quaids on the property, finally doing so by nightfall on Saturday, September 18th.
The Quaids were read their rights and arrested for felony residential burglary, entering a non-commercial building without consent and causing damages exceeding $5,000 to the property. Although Randy Quaid, according to police reports, did not resist arrest, Evi Quaid required physical restraint, so she was booked for misdemeanor resisting arrest as well.
Bail for Randy Quaid and Evi Quaid has been set at $50,000 apiece.
This was not the first arrest for Randy Quaid and Evi Quaid.
The Quaids were previously arrested for allegedly failing to pay a bill (totaling more than $10,000) at California’s San Ysidro Ranch luxury hotel in April 2010. Apparently, they used an invalid credit card to pay their hotel bill.
After failing to show up for a series of court appearances, the Quaids finally had their day in court. Randy Quaid’s case was dismissed, but Evi Quaid pleaded no contest and received a three-year probation, along with 240 hours of community service.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department did not comment on whether parole violation charges will be assessed against Evi Quaid for her most recent run-in with local law enforcement.
The Quaids were also suspected of trying to use an invalid credit card to pay for lodging at Santa Barbara’s plush Biltmore Hotel, a Four Seasons resort, according to Arnie Tolks, Santa Barbara’s senior deputy district attorney.
