You expect to see celebrities on the big screen, small screen, and on stage – you don’t expect to see them behind bars. Maybe you shouldn’t be surprised when you see that’s where many of today’s celebrities appear to be headed, based on a long line of recent celebrity arrests in 2010.
The most recent offense is the Randy Quaid arrest on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, for burglary. The list of 2010 celebrity arrests isn’t limited to Randy Quaid and burglary. Celebrities are being charged with possession of drugs, battery, and attempted murder — what’s happening to the industry?
Randy Quaid Arrest
According to the Washington Post, Randy Quaid was arrested for burglary – that is, he was allegedly living on a property without permission of the owner, in essence, squatting. Where did the arrest take place? At a home that Quaid previously owned with his wife, who was also arrested. Later, the felony charges against Quaid were dropped.
Paris Hilton Arrest
No stranger to media attention, Paris Hilton was another of the most recent celebrity arrests of 2010. The former reality television star and socialite was arrested in Las Vegas in August for alleged cocaine possession. CNN reports that Hilton was released from jail after one night, and that Hilton’s attorney asked that the matter be handled by the courts instead of the media. She is expected to strike a deal.
Russell Brand Arrest
Russell Brand was recently arrested at an airport for getting into a fight with paparazzi on Friday, Sept. 17, according to E! Online. The celebrity arrest was made at LAX Airport while actor Brand was with fiancée Katy Perry.
Shelley Malil Arrest and Conviction
Drugs, burglary and fights aren’t even the worst of today’s celebrity offenses. 40 Year Old Virgin actor Shelley Malil was found guilty of attempted murder just last week. According to Popeater, the trial lasted for three weeks and Malil was found guilty of the attempted murder of an ex-girlfriend.
Whether we’re simply hearing more about 2010 celebrity arrests, or today’s celebrities are actually committing and being charged with more crime remains to be seen. One thing is for certain, though – Randy Quaid’s arrest isn’t the first, or the last, celebrity arrest of 2010.
