Clifford Harris, aka rapper T.I and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, were arrested on Wednesday, September 1 for possession of controlled substances. The couple was pulled over in West Hollywood during a routine traffic stop when the police smelled marijuana coming from their Maybach and searched the car. The police allegedly found methamphetamine during the search. According to The Huffington Post, they were released from jail Thursday morning after posting bail of $10,000 each.
T.I., 29, is a multi-platinum, and Grammy award-winning recording artist, based in Atlanta, G.A. Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, 36, is a former member of the R&B singing group, Xscape. Tameka Cottle is also a co-star of the BET reality series, The Tiny and Toya Show. T.I. and Tiny were married this July in a secret ceremony in Miami.
T.I. was released from an Arkansas federal prison in December 2009 after serving 7 months on charges of illegally possessing firearms. The federal prison time stems from his October 2007 arrest while trying to purchase machine guns and silencers from an under cover Federal agent. Tiny was also arrested in 2007 during the illegal weapons sting. T.I., who was already a convicted felon at the time, served three months in an Atlanta halfway house. T.I. is currently serving three years of supervised release. He was ordered to submit specimens for drug tests and to participate in a drug and alcohol treatment program.
According to CNN, T.I. and Tiny will be represented by attorneys Christopher Smith and Steven Sadow. Attorney Sadow represented T.I. in his federal firearms case back in 2008. Sadow says that T.I.’s initial hearing is in November.
T.I. and Tiny made a very poor choice by driving around in a car with drugs. For one, he attracts attention by virtue of the fact that he is well-known, Black, and driving a Maybach. That was very stupid on the part of T.I. and Tiny. What happened to T.I’s “Road to Redemption” and all this talk about moving forward and evolving? T.I. may have to spend some real time in prison now, as he probably violated the terms of his probation, which is scheduled to end in 2013. Some people insist on learning the hard way. Well, I wish Tiny and Tip good luck.
