Advertising can be a large expense when promoting a new album. The team behind the promotion for Reba McEntire’s upcoming album All the Woman I Am found a way to get the fans to do the advertising for them. Fans can participate in various ‘missions’ from Mission Reba and win autographed plaques and a little bit of fame.
The first mission was a print advertising done solely by the fans. There were handouts and posters made available online that fans could print and spread around to promote McEntire’s new album. The fans were to take either photos or videos of their efforts and submit them to the website. The winner of the first week won an autographed copy of the new CD.
In this mission fans used their social networking accounts to promote the new album. There were a variety of promotional icons they had to change their profile pictures to in order to participate. Once again videos or pictures could be submitted of fans doing this to multiple accounts and a winner was chosen. The winner of this particular mission received an autographed picture as well as the Keep On Loving You and All The Woman I AM CD.
This mission is currently underway. Fans must wear red to support the new album. They can wear a red hat, read shirt, red Halloween costume, virtually anything. They only need to take a picture or video of themselves wearing red and promoting the album to be entered in the contest. This week’s winner will win a framed plaque and an autographed CD.
There will be two more missions and it is currently unclear what those will be. The winner of the next mission will receive an autographed guitar. The winner of the fifth and final mission will win a personalized voicemail message, autographed CD, and a T-Shirt collection from McEntire.
The idea for the advertisers to let the fans do the promoting is an excellent way to get the word out there. The prizes are very low cost compared to the amount of money a company usually spends promoting an album. When the CD goes on sale November 9th we will see just how successful this tool has been. Letting the consumers do the print ads was a genius idea as was taking control of their social media profiles to reach millions of viewers. Kudos to the advertising team and a combination of these efforts and the already large fan base for Reba McEntire should make for a very successful album.
