This easy no sew craft is a perfect way to recycle your children’s old blue jeans into a cute craft. If your children have old jeans that are torn, worn out or they just do not wear anymore you can make magnets out of them. Here is an unique way to recycle those jeans into something useful. These back to school jean pocket locker magnets are a fun way for your child to decorate their locker in style. You will probably like them so much you will want to make extra ones for your refrigerator.
Old Blue Jeans (Any size, you can choose ones with plain or decorated back pockets)
Roll Of Flexible Adhesive Magnetic Strip ( I use one inch wide)
Heavy Duty Scissors ( I use a serrated edge type, used for cutting food items)
Hot Glue Gun
Iron On Patches
Using your heavy duty scissors you cut around the back pockets out of your pair of blue jeans ;you want to recycle. Be sure to cut out the entire pocket, including the back part, you need both side to make the pocket. The first time I cut the pockets away form the jeans I cut out extra material around the pocket, so I do not accidentally cut the pocket. Once I have the pockets separate from the jeans I then again cut around the perimeter of the pocket as closely as I can to the stitching so there is not extra fabric sticking out.
This is optional if you want to decorate the back to school blue jean pocket locker magnets with a more personal touch. If your jean pockets already have a design you like on them, or id your child just wants maybe a plain Wrangler or Levi design then you can skip this step. Many jeans already have some embellishment on the back pocket as you can see in my photo I have some I left plain and some I added extra decorations to.
This is the fun part you get to make your children an unique pocket locker magnet they will love. For boys you could use an iron on patch with a skateboard, snowboard, or if they play sports football, basketball or softball. As you will see in my photo I frilly back to school blue jean locker magnets, since I have daughters. For my tween daughter I made her one with the top decorated with a black feather boa, this is perfect for a diva. And my younger daughter I used pink and purple heart beads. They are available in many different colors, for about $7.00 for one foot. I purchased my boa at our local Hobby Lobby store, you can see it here. I just cut it to fit and use a hot glue gun to attach it.
After you allow time for your decorations on your back to school pocket locker magnet to dry you can then attach the magnetic strip to the back. Here you can see the kind I use, it is one inch wide, and ten feet long roll for only $4.99. This flexible strip is easy to use, all you do is measure how much you need for each side of the blue jean locker magnet. Then you peel the backing off the magnetic tape and stick it on the back of the jean pocket. It is so simple, no sewing or anything.
It is that easy, instead of throwing away old torn jeans you were able to recycle them into something fun and different. They are perfect magnets to keep at home on your icebox to keep coupons in. They will help your children decorate their locker with something their friends do not have. They can put a few of these blue jean pocket locker magnets up to hold change for lunch, pens and pencils, a brush. They do not cost very much to make and it will help your children have some extra storage for back to school items, and look cool also.
