At Red Lobster you’ll find Crabfest is now well underway. This means that for a limited time crab dishes will be featured including some new creations. I recently tried the Crab Crusted Tilapia at Red Lobster and it was absolutely divine.
This dish is a hearty portion of baked light flaky tilapia with a cream sauce that is reminiscent of the garlic Alfredo Sauce that Red Lobster serves with their linguini dishes. The Crab Crusted Tilapia has a crumb topping which is browned in the oven and is light and delicious. The menu states that this crumb crust “is a creamy blend of sweet crabmeat, Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs, then baked crispy and golden.” I would have to agree with the menu on all except the crispy part. This is a baked fish entrée with a breaded crust and a creamy sauce that does contain parmesan and crabmeat but it wasn’t particularly crunchy. There was only a little bit of it that actually got brown in the oven. Nevertheless, the dish was thoroughly delicious and tasted fattening.
I looked up the calorie content of this dish online and though the dish tasted fattening I was pleasantly surprised to find it has only 450 calories! This is a dieter’s dream dish. It tastes sinfully rich and decadent and is relatively low in calories. The entrée is featured as served with broccoli and rice pilaf however you can substitute a potato or other side dish at Red Lobster usually for no extra cost. My personal favorite is the baked potato at Red Lobster. They do them just right with salt on the potato skin and plenty of fresh sour cream and butter.
In addition to the Crab Crusted Tilapia which I tried at Red Lobster, the seasonal menu for Crabfest has several other dishes which are available for only a limited time. These include a Crab Lovers Trio, Garlic and Crab Shrimp Pasta, and a Snow Crab and Shrimp dinner. Prices for these items start at $14.99 for the tilapia dish, and top out at $25.99 for the Crab Lovers Trio.
I hadn’t been to Red Lobster for some time and was pleasantly surprised by the new menu items and I really enjoyed the selection, service, and especially the food at the Gurnee Mills, Illinois location. The overall quality of everything was really quite excellent, especially when you consider this is a busy national chain restaurant. I guess there is a good reason why there is always a long wait at Red Lobster on the weekends.
Next time you visit Red Lobster try the Crab Crusted Tilapia, if it’s still around. You won’t be disappointed. My overall score for Red Lobster in Gurnee and for this new dish from Red Lobster is a yummy A+.
