Headlights on occasion can be a headache especially when there is a problem and it may not be the bulb. Having trouble with the cars headlights? Does one light seem to be duller or less bright than the other? It might be time to change the light or there could be another problem. Some times the problem is in the wiring of the vehicle. In this case it could be the grounding wire.
The ground wire on any electrical item can cause mysterious problems sometimes to the point of driving one crazy. Radio would have not taken off if it were not for a good common ground wire. Proper grounds are as important as a proper energy supply and just as necessary.
Ground wires are often taken for granted here is how to determine if dimness in your vehicles headlight may be caused by a bad ground wire:
Wire 1: First thing to do is trace the ground wire down. Find the headlight and then find the ground by tracing it backwards to the vehicles body where it should be mounted. The wire in question will probably be a green wire with stripes but could have been replaced with anything else. The wire will definitely be connected to the vehicles body some where.
Wire 2: After tracing the ground wire down the next thing to do is to remove it and clean the wire. This can be done with a wire brush by brushing the metal connector and any other rust on the end of the wire. The next thing to do is replace or wire brush the screw that was holding the wire in place. Then just to be sure wire brush the frame where the screw was attached. When using a wire brush wear gloves as accidents do happen.
Wire 3: After this is done put the screw back into the ground wire and reattach it to the vehicle being careful not to strip the screw. When one puts the screw in turn it counter clockwise until it feels like it seats then reverse and turn it clockwise until seated. Tighten the screw until it is very snug.
Wire 4: Now inspect the headlight it should be as good as new and have just as much output as before.
Doing things yourself will save money and also build confidence. This is one of those projects that does not require technical skills and can be done by most anyone with basic motor skills.
