Do you love animals and think maybe helping out at the city of Royal Oak’s animal shelter might be a rewarding way to spend your time? Maybe you committed a misdemeanor and the judge is making you do some community service and you think it would be a great service to help the lost, abused and homeless animals at the Royal Oak Animal Shelter.
Well, if you really want to help out first you must be at least 18 years of age, you only have to be 16 years old to have a job but I am sure the city of Royal Oak has a really good reason for that restriction. Then you actually have to fill out an application which has to be approved by the Deputy Chief of Police and you have to agree to a background check. Yes, they will be checking for any prior contact with the police department and to see if you have a criminal record. If you make it pass the background check and are accepted as a volunteer you then have to sign a waiver holding the city harmless and not liable in the event that a vicious dog should happen to rip off your arm.
Now, if you have committed some type so minor crime and the judge has decided that you must do community service as part of your punishment then you can just forget about volunteering at the city of Royal Oak’s Animal Shelter. They don’t want volunteers who have to do it only those who want to do it.
Here’s a thought, why not let people who have to serve the community clean the cages and do any other unpleasant jobs that may arise and let the people who are doing it because they want to do all the fun stuff like walking the dogs and organizing in the fund raisers.
