My husband and I dined at Chili’s in Fargo on a Thursday night in September 2010. The restaurant is located at 4000 13th Ave. S., adjacent to the West Acres Shopping Center just off of Interstate 29. Our one year-old son accompanied us to the restaurant.
When we arrived the restaurant was not crowded, but the host who greeted us seemed rushed as he helped the only other party awaiting a table. After he seated them and returned for us, I requested a booth, but he said the staff had already set up a high chair at a table and he did not seem very willing to move us to the type of seating we requested, even though there was plenty of room in the restaurant. He asked if the table would work and gave the impression that moving us to a booth would inconvenience him.
We were greeted promptly by our waiter. We ordered chips and queso (cheese dip with beef) as an appetizer. The queso was somewhat warm, but heating it up a bit more would have improved its taste. For our meal, we ordered salads. I chose the chicken Caesar salad. Someone was overly generous with the pepper on my entrée. My husband ordered the “Quesadilla Explosion Salad,” which features “grilled chicken with cheese, corn relish, cilantro, tortilla strips and citrus-balsamic dressing,” according to the Chili’s online menu. He said the salad had a good flavor. The waiter did check with us during our meal to confirm that everything was satisfactory.
After finishing our supper, we declined our waiter’s offer of dessert and requested our check. In reviewing the bill, I noticed that the server had failed to apply the coupon we had given him for a free appetizer. After I pointed this out to him, he quickly remedied the situation. Because of the coupon, our total bill for two salads, an appetizer and one soda came to around $21.
The restaurant seemed clean, and the noise level was conducive to conversation since the restaurant was not very full. However, my food was mediocre and I wasn’t impressed with the efforts the host made to accommodate our seating request. For these reasons, I will probably choose another restaurant for my next night out in Fargo.
