Omar’s Italian Mediterranean and more is a new restaurant in the St. Ann area. It is located at 10111 St. Charles Rock Rd. Omar’s offers Dine in, Delivery, carry out, and catering. In the year since it has opened Omar’s has became a very popular restaurant in the St. Ann area.
Design– Omar’s is a relatively small restaurant; the building previously had been home to a car stereo business. But Omar has done a great job of making the most out of a small area. There is a patios area in front of Omar’s for patrons who visit during nice weather and would like to eat outside. The inside has several booths and a few tables. The tables have pictures from the Mediterranean area of the world and the entire restaurant features pictures and items on the walls and ceiling and everywhere you look. It is quite an interesting place. Along the side of the building Omar has planted several herbs so that he use fresh herbs and spices in his dishes. This sort of restaurant is a new experience for St. Ann, but a pleasant one.
Service– The service at Omar’s is quite friendly. Our server was also very accurate and brought us exactly what we asked for and remembered exactly who got what. But as a warning I must tell you that you might be waiting awhile to get your food at Omar’s. Give yourself at least an hour and a half to two hours. If you are ordering something to bring home for someone else, do not listen to the server and wait till the end of your meal because you will be waiting another 30 minutes for that other meal, instead have her out in for it when she brings you your food, as interesting as the place looks you will get bored waiting for that other meal.
Food– The food is delicious! The back of the take out menu says that the owners of Omar’s, John and Omar, travel in the Mediterranean region and bring home recipes from places they eat. They describe Omar’s as their “restaurant adventure.” And it is definitely an adventure you want to be a part of. Fresh Humus served with perfectly warmed Pita bread is an excellent starter for your meal. Omar’s offers everything. Favorites from Turkey such as Shawerma (which is marinated steak, layered and slowly roasted and then sliced), several kinds of kabobs and tabbouleh salad. Italian favorites such as fettuccine Alfredo, spaghetti, homemade ravioli, manicotti, primavera, and Omar’s salad which features provel cheese among other things.
They also serve American favorites, such as cheese fries, cheese burgers, steak dinners, and fish sandwiches. The pizza ranges offered at Omar’s is excellent; we tried the New York style which was amazing. Be sure to also try the shawarma pizza with either Beef or chicken, chicken Alfredo, bar-b-que chicken, veggie or Chicago style pizza’s. They also offer a house special which is 20″ and hand tossed.
Prices- The prices are typical of sit-down restaurants in the area. The most expensive salad is $6. 99, the appetizers range from $3.95 for the cheese garlic bread to $6.95 for the fried mushroom parmigiana. A small soda is $1.39 a large is $1.89. The pasta and entrees range from $8.95 for the cannelloni to $ 15. 99 for the Cornish Hen. The cheapest sandwich at Omar’s is the $5.49 Falafel sandwich; the most expensive is the $7.99 Italian Hamburger parmigiana. All prices and menu items are current as of the menu in 2010.
Overall– Delicious food, not the greatest for young kids but older kids will enjoy it, interesting, affordable, and definitely worth your time.
