This article will serve as a walkthrough for the Dawn of War II mission ‘Retake the Hamlet’. Retake the Hamlet is the second mission in Dawn of War II, tasked with retaking and holding a key area that was recently overrun by Orks. Retake the Hamlet takes place on the planet of Calderis and introduces Cyrus’ and Avitus’ squads of scouts and devastators.
Retake The Hamlet in Dawn of War II begins with Cyrus and his scouts clearing a landing zone of some Ork patrols before the drop pod containing Tarkus and my Force Commander come down. I am tasked with moving to the east facing some Slugga Boyz before infiltrating Cyrus’ scouts to move against a Tower up ahead.
While infiltrated I make Cyrus chuck a demolition pack onto the tower from the spot that is designated up ahead. After the tower is destroyed some other Orks end up fleeing from the area, allowing me to move my troops to revive Sergeant Avitus who is unconscious here. Capturing the relay beacon allows me to fill out my squad by beaming down troops for Avitus’ devastator squad.
Moving from Avitus and the first orbital relay in Retake the Hamlet further along the path leads to a barrier that stretches to the right, and a squad of Ork Shoota Boyz. Engaging this group causes 2 more squads of Shoota Boyz to move down and attack from the north. I leave Avitus set up behind the barrier with Tarkus to cut them down while the Force Commander had run to engage the first squad in close combat.
After clearing these enemies I move my squads further north next to a destroyed predator and some barriers to serve as cover. I am told to set up the devastators right next to the husk of the predator that lies here. I do so then set up the Tactical Marines and Scouts at the barriers to the fore of where the devastators are. Soon a large group of Orks attack, consisting of 4 separate Shoota Boyz squad, some of the with Big Shootas. My Force Commander charging into the group causes an excellent disruption to the attack, while a grenade could also work just as well here as the Orks cluster together.
After this wave is dealt with, it’s time to move west to the next orbital relay, and capture it to retake the settlement. I am informed of another attack, so the Devastators get set up in the building, while the Tactical marines take the barrier to the left of the building, and the Scouts take the barrier to the bottom right of the orbital relay.
The Orks begin attacking from the north path and consists of 2 squads of Shoota Boyz followed by 2 squads of Slugga Boyz followed by another 3 squads of Slugga Boyz. The Slugga boyz end up throwing grenades, which means it’s important to watch and get Avitus out of the building when the grenade is thrown, to prevent the whole squad from being taken out. I unfortunately found this out the hard way, when a grenade landed several meters away from the building, but was apparently not far enough away to matter. The final wave starts coming from the west next starting with 4 squads of Slugga Boyz, using the devastators to suppress the oncoming squads while healing everybody with a health pack. Finishing the last of this wave ends the mission Retake the Hamlet.
