I was at my parents’ house on Friday picking up my kids after work. While waiting for my oldest daughter to get her stuff gathered up and out the door, I noticed a big box of fruit snack on top of their fridge from the brand Black Forest.
The thing that originally caught my eye was the size of the box. It was much larger than the packaging for most other brands of fruit snacks and there were many more packs inside. And, from what my mom told me about it, it was a brand that was also considerably less than other brands; despite having more packs of fruit snacks.
Another thing that caught my eye and really made me interested in trying these snacks was the promise of a “juicy filled center.” In fact, after reading that, I found it really hard to believe when my mom told me the kids simply were not eating them.
Out of curiosity, I ended up taking a few packs of these fruit snacks to have later. And, after trying one of those packs today while at work, I can honestly say I understand exactly why the kids don’t like them.
At first, these fruit snacks didn’t look any different than any other fruit snack I have tried. They, like many others, were the same color and shape as the fruit they were supposedly made from and were about the same size as most other brands.
When I first bit into them, I also didn’t notice much of a difference. For the first couple seconds at least, they tasted the same as every other brand of fruit snack.
However, once I got to the juicy center and had that taste, I honestly had a hard time finishing even one package of these. The juicy center gave these snacks an overpowering flavor that, in my opinion at least, was anything but enjoyable and is obviously the reason my daughters were not interested in eating more than one package of these either.
After my first fruit snack, I did try some more in the hopes it was a taste that I could get used to. And, after the first couple, it didn’t seem quite as strong. But, I can honestly say I did not enjoy these particular snacks as much as other brands. They might be cheaper and I applaud their effort to be different. But, I cannot see any reason why I would buy this brand of snacks for my family.
