My wife decided to go out shopping a few days ago rather than watch football with me. When she asked me if there was anything I needed, I decided to be a bit difficult (I really wanted her to stay home and watch the game) and told her I would like a jar of pickles (she wasn’t planning on going to a grocery store).
I figured she would just bring home a cheap brand of dill pickles. But, it turns out she happened to have a coupon for Claussen Kosher Dill Spears and she picked up a jar of those instead.
I have seen advertisements for Claussen dill pickles before and have always been interested in trying them. But, as I have mentioned before, I shop on price and never thought they would be good enough to justify spending extra money on them.
It turns out I was wrong.
I wasn’t really in the mood for pickles when she brought this product home. But, since I did make her go out of her way, I felt obligated to at least eat one of them. And, I was immediately impressed.
First of all, these pickles, unlike many other brands, have a nice crunch to them. I won’t pretend to fully understand the science behind having a pickle that is crunchier than other brands. But, I have no problem saying it made a significant difference.
Another thing that both surprised me and impressed me was the flavor of these dill pickles. I like dill pickles. But, there are many brands, especially in the price range I normally look for, that are just too strong; even for me. That’s why, whenever I buy pickles, I usually get sick of them and half the jar ends up going to waste.
These pickles, however, were fantastic. They still had a dill flavor to them (which is why my wife still doesn’t like them). But, it is a milder flavor and, as a result, I have eaten nearly the entire jar already because I have been eating the pickles both with other foods and as a late night snack.
I do, however, have one complaint about this product. I’m not sure exactly why this is, but the dill spears do seem to have an overly high amount of seeds in them. It doesn’t affect the taste too much but I have found myself picking them out of the pickles just because there are so many.
Overall though, I do feel this brand was worth the money my wife spent on it and I think I will be buying it again in the future.
