As I mentioned in an earlier review, I was in the mood for a spaghetti dinner this past Friday and decided to stop off at the store to pick up the ingredients for it.
We already had spaghetti pasta at home. But, we seem to go through it really fast so I decided to pick up another box of it; just in case. When I did this, I had intended on buying the store brand (which I have had before and actually like). But, I noticed a package of DaVinci Spaghetti pasta on the shelf too. I had never had this brand before and, since it was only a few pennies more, I decided to give it a try.
It was an OK brand. But, I think I would have been better off with the store brand.
Quality wise, the DaVinci pasta wasn’t too bad. I’ve mentioned before how I like pasta that doesn’t leave a white film in the water while it is cooking and this was one of the brands I have purchased that didn’t do that. In fact, the water was actually pretty clear. And, unlike many other brands I have tried; I did not have a problem with the spaghetti sticking together (at least not in bulk); even after the water had been drained and it had sat out for a while.
As far as taste goes, I think I would place this pasta in the “average” category. It wasn’t a brand that necessarily improved the overall flavor of the dinner. But, unlike many pastas, it also didn’t do anything to damage it either. It was simply a plain pasta that had some taste to it but really wasn’t anything special without the sauce.
My biggest complaint about this product was the quantity. Weight wise, there supposedly wasn’t any less in the package than with any other brand (it was one pound; jus t like I usually buy). But, when it was cooked, it really didn’t look like that. And, even though I don’t think we ate any more than we usually do when I make spaghetti for dinner (my oldest had three servings but they were small servings); there wasn’t as much pasta leftover as their normally is.
As I said before, overall, I do think this was an OK brand and there wasn’t anything about it that would cause me to say I definitely wouldn’t buy it again. But, considering it was more expensive than the store brand, I was expecting a bit more from it than I would have gotten from the store brand and it did not fulfill those expectations.
