As I mentioned in another review, I needed some foods to go with an Asian shrimp stir fry I decided to buy for dinner last night.
I ended up buying a box of chicken egg rolls from the Fusia Asian Inspirations brand and, while in that section, I happened to notice they had pork pot stickers as well. Since this is a food my wife and I both like, I picked up a box.
As I said in my other review, I loved the chicken egg rolls and feel they were easily the best I have had in a long time. However, even though the pot stickers from this brand weren’t terrible, I don’t think I liked them as much.
To be fair, I do want to make it clear I have yet to find a brand of frozen pot stickers that are as good as those we can make from scratch or get at a restaurant. So, when I say I didn’t think they were as good as the egg rolls, I’m not necessarily saying they were bad. In fact, considering they did cost me less than $2, I do feel they were among the better frozen brands I have tried.
One of the first things I discovered about this brand that I absolutely loved was the fact I could make them in the microwave without a bunch of complicated steps. Most other brands, for example, have instructions that range from wrapping the pot stickers in plastic to adding a measured amount of water to them (which I never get right). This brand was so much simpler. All I had to do was leave them in the plastic bag they came in (removing the box, of course) and cook them for about 90 seconds. Since I made both bags (there were 5 in each), I cooked them for 2 minutes and they came out great. They weren’t too dry or over cooked.
The pot stickers also were pretty filling. I’m used to buying brands of these that don’t have too much inside them. I didn’t have that problem with this brand.
The only thing that was really a disappointment for me was the taste. Unlike the egg rolls, which offered a bit of a kick that made them memorable, these really weren’t anything special when it came to the flavor. I would compare the egg rolls to egg rolls I would find at a restaurant. I cannot say the same about these.
Because of that, even though I would recommend this frozen brand over other brands, I do think, if you can afford it, you are better off getting restaurant-made pot stickers instead.
