Since my wife had to run to the bank to cash her paycheck after work on Friday, she said she would pick something up at the store for dinner. I’m not really sure what she originally intended on buying while she was there. But, she came home with something that neither of us had seen before; Joe’s Crab Shack Eat at Home Salmon with Honey Dijon Mustard Sauce.
I had heard of Joe’s Crab Shack before. But, the closest restaurant is a pretty long drive from here (at least a couple hours) so we have never eaten there and I wasn’t really sure what to expect; especially since this was a frozen dinner and most frozen dinners don’t even come close to being as good as the food provided at the restaurant.
And, to be perfectly honest, I really didn’t think I would enjoy it; simply because I have never liked salmon in the past.
However, after trying this dinner, I have to say I was very impressed with it.
First of all, the dinner didn’t just come with the fish; it came with the side dishes too; rice and broccoli. And, unlike many other products that advertise themselves as dinners for two; this one really was enough for two people. My wife and I were able to eat what we wanted and there was still rice left over.
The food, which was prepared in the microwave, was very easy to make and didn’t take nearly as long as I thought it would. It wasn’t as fast as her bringing home McDonalds (which is what I thought she was going to do). But, I wasn’t waiting half the evening to eat either. We were sitting down for dinner by 6:30 (and didn’t get home until after 5).
What really impressed me about this product though was the taste. Like I said before, I have never liked salmon in the past. But, this time around, I really did enjoy it. I wasn’t overly crazy about the honey Dijon mustard sauce. But, the fish didn’t have the strong oily taste and smell I’ve had with other salmon (possibly because it was steamed).
The best part was the fact she didn’t spend a fortune on this; less than $8. I have purchased plenty of frozen dinners that were as expensive or even more expensive and not gotten nearly as much in terms of quality or quantity.
If you are looking for something a bit different the next time you are looking to make a dinner for two people, I would recommend this.
