I decided to take Tuesday afternoon off from work so I could renew my driver’s license. Since that took much less time than I was planning, I figured I ended up taking advantage of it and picking up my daughter from my parents’ house so I could spend some time with her.
While at their house, I noticed they had purchased a package of Keebler Baker’s Treasures Chocolate Chip Cookies. I had never heard of these before and didn’t really know what the difference was between them and other cookies. But, when I read the packaging and saw they were made from applesauce, it definitely caught my attention.
I didn’t take the time to read any further to see why exactly the company made these from applesauce or what exactly they were replacing with it in the baking process. But, I was definitely curious about how they tasted and gave one of them a try. And, I have to say I was impressed.
When I say that, I’m sure there will be some people who think it is because I noticed something about these cookies so amazing I just had to brag about it. That is not the case. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. I didn’t notice anything difference between these cookies and any other. They tasted the same and they had the same softness I’ve come to expect from the Keebler brand.
Let me explain. As I said before, I don’t know exactly what the applesauce was used for in the baking process. But, I think it is safe to assume they used that ingredient in an effort to either reduce the fat content or make them less bad for me in some other way.
I have made efforts in the past to purchase cookies and other snacks like that. But, most that are sugar free, fat reduced, etc. have a noticeable taste difference when compared to the real thing. So the fact I can have something that is slightly better for me but doesn’t taste any different is always going to score high marks with me. And, I especially like the fact they did it with a natural ingredient like applesauce rather than some sort of substitute that was made in a laboratory.
For the record, my kids didn’t notice a difference either. I gave one to my oldest daughter without telling her what was in them because she doesn’t like applesauce. She ate her cookie without complaining and even wanted another one.
If you are looking to buy a pack of cookies for your family but want something slightly better for you, I would recommend this product.
