A couple days ago, my wife saw something new from Taco Bell on TV and I told her I would buy it for her as soon as I got paid. Since I can’t eat Taco Bell food (I like it but my stomach doesn’t) and we needed something for the kids anyway, I ended up going to McDonalds on my way home too.
Normally, I would just buy a couple of hamburgers for myself. But, I remembered McDonalds recently came back out with its McRib Sandwich. Since I have never had one before and it looked good on TV, I decided to give it a try.
Next time, I’ll stick with my usual.
I’m going to start out by saying I have never been a big fan of either of our McDonalds and it’s quite possible that my experience might have varied if I had ordered this sandwich from a restaurant in a different location (one that doesn’t have incompetent people working behind the counter). But, at least as far as the one I did try goes; I really was not a fan of this sandwich.
First of all, there was a lot of barbecue sauce on it. Yes, it’s a rib and yes ribs should have sauce. But, I felt like the sandwich was almost nothing but sauce at times (the sandwich I ordered had sauce leaking through the box; making me very glad they decided to put it in a separate bag).
As for the rib, it tasted like the “ribs” in the frozen TV dinners I sometimes buy. They are edible but there isn’t anything about them that make you think they really are ribs and not just a bunch of meat (from a mystery animal) that is mashed together in rib shape.
I also have to question exactly why McDonalds thought putting pickles on a rib sandwich was a good idea. I like pickles. In fact, I love pickles. But, there are certain things that type of food simply does not go with. And, this was one of those things. I will say, however, I liked the onions on it and thought the bun it came in was a good choice too. There are people who absolutely love this sandwich so, as I have said in the past with other products, it’s possible you will have a different opinion of this sandwich; especially if you don’t buy it from the same McDonalds I did. However, I think this will be the last time I try the McRib.
