I admit I was not thrilled with the prospect of watching “The Walking Dead” but my husband begged and pleaded. I gave in and I am thrilled to report that it is one of the best shows of the season. “The Walking Dead” is the perfect combination of what men and women love in a television show. Men will find the zombies perfectly gruesome as the feast upon the flesh of the unfortunate living when they are lucky enough to corner them. Men will also find the guns and other weapons entertaining as the few remaining that are living protect themselves by taking out the zombies whenever possible.
While men are fantasizing about shooting zombies in the head with a high-powered rifle, women will enjoy the human drama and stories that are the real backbone of “The Walking Dead.” The new series is based on the graphic novels by Robert Kirkman and is scary, gory, thrilling and entertaining. The story follows Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), a Southern small town sheriff’s deputy as he wakes up from a coma to discover the world is now filled with zombies. His wife and son have disappeared and he sets out to find them only to find a small band of survivors in Atlanta, which has become the city of zombies. By making the focus of the show the human drama, portrayed superbly by a fantastic cast, and surrounding the drama by perfectly gory zombies, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” appeals to both genders on multiple levels. Men will love the horror, physical fights, guns and special effects. Women will not be able to resist Rick Grimes as he searches for his wife and son, overcoming unimaginable obstacles to find them with his partner (who just happens to be sleeping with his wife after telling her he was dead). The first three episodes have been a fantastic roller coaster ride following the handful of humans as they fight zombies and struggle with conflict amongst themselves.
“The Walking Dead” premiered on AMC on Halloween and airs every Sunday night at 10pm EST. There are three more episodes in this first season so watch the first episodes online, grab someone to hold onto and tune in this Sunday night at 10pm on AMC to find out if Grimes and his band of survivors manage to stay one step ahead of the zombies.
