I bought a bottle of L.A. Colors nail polish in a “Jungle Fever” hue at my local Honks Dollar Store. Since it was $.88 Tuesday, I figured, why the Hell not? And decided to give the funky, dark green and blue tinted hue a try. Is it a cheap nail polish, or did I get a great color for my collection at a great price?
I’m actually quite surprised by how well the nail polish applied. It’s a shiny, dark greenish blue tint that went on dark and even on the first coat. The color is a little more watery than I’m used to, so if I apply too much it’s easy to have it glop over onto my fingers. But with careful application, I did just my thumb nail so I could gauge how much I needed to apply, how long it takes to dry, and how easy the L.A. Colors “Jungle Fever” nail polish actually goes on.
It’s a smooth application, but like I said, a bit watery, so I was wiping the brush off inside the edge of the bottle before applying so I didn’t overdo it. The first coat was dark, but I could still slightly see my nail through it, so I gave it a few minutes, and applied a quick second coat. The product is a sticky drier, and it took about 15 minutes to dry totally, but the end result was a shiny, bright, dark green and blue hue that didn’t look tacky or cheap. For less than a buck for a .44 fluid ounce bottle, I would say that’s not a bad deal.
Does it dry as quickly as I’d like? No- even after 15 minutes my nail was still slightly tacky, so I ran my thumb under cool water for 30 seconds to encourage setting. I don’t like how thin the polish is, but that does help it go on extremely smoothly. I wanted a second coat to feel satisfied with the color, but in the end I got the great tint exactly like the bottle showed, so I was pleased with the results. Next Tuesday, I’m going to try out more of the L.A. Colors nail polishes that they have available, and see if their other colors work as well as this one does. For $.88, I was quite surprised at how much this nail polish actually worked. Much better than the NYC nail polishes at Wal-Mart, and a cooler color to boot.
