If you like barbecue style food, you’ll love Uncle Bub’s Award Winning BBQ in Westmont, Illinois. I recently made a trip to the Chicago area for a week; it was our first full day there, and my boyfriend Dan and I were starving after a trip to Six Flags. We agreed to try Uncle Bub’s authentic, pit-smoked barbecue in the western suburbs of Illinois. We arrived with growling stomachs and left feeling absolutely stuffed.
Uncle Bub’s is the type of restaurant that asks you to order your food at the front desk before seating yourself. I felt a bit like I had been put on the spot when it came time to order, so I quickly decided on a half slab of baby back ribs for $13.99. I love ribs, and they are always a good default when I can’t decide on an entree.
Besides baby back ribs, Uncle Bub’s offers a variety of menu items. If you are hungry enough, you can start out with an appetizer of rib tips, a nacho platter, wings, or cheese fries. Their soups include homemade chili and a “soup of the day”. You can also choose from several types of salad, from a cheeseburger salad to a chicken Caesar salad.
For your main course, you might want to try the pulled pork from Uncle Bub’s BBQ or the sliced beef brisket. Or how about some hot links? And there are sandwiches if a pig pickin’ pulled pork or a smoked turkey breast suits your fancy. For the kids, there are always chicken littles and grilled cheese, “just like mom used to make.”
Then there are the desserts. Apple pie is fresh-baked daily, and the bread pudding is home made the old fashioned way. Or there is a good, old-fashioned root beer float.
The prices at Uncle Bub’s are similar to those you will find at most any other barbecue or cost-friendly steakhouse. The dinners, which come with sides, are anywhere from $10 to $20, depending on what you choose. The kids menu is relatively low-cost in the $5 to $7 range.
We dug into the food when it arrived. Now, I love ribs, although my standards are set pretty high. The ribs were good, but they were not as tender as I would have liked. Overall, the experience was an enjoyable one. I would definitely visit Uncle Bub’s Award Winning BBQ if I were to make a trip to Illinois again.
