I’m a Degree antiperspirant gal typically, but the Secret brand of antiperspirant caught my eye with their “Smooth Effects” line, which totes on the back that you will “Shave less often”. Being both a hairy and a sweaty gal (love ya dad- thanks for the genetics!), I purchased the antiperspirant in “wildflower fresh” and was eager to try it out.
Did I mention I’m a sweaty gal? Like, drip down your arms sweaty. Like, sweat on your face and hands in addition to sweating buckets out your armpits sweaty. I’m naturally a sweater, so I was hoping that Secret would do me well, and the fact that I could shave my monster pits less? Woo hoo! Well, I may not be shaving as much, but thank goodness for that because this antiperspirant makes my armpits itch like no freaking other, and I scratch all night long, leaving deep red grooves in my pits that I would no way, no how want to put a razor to.
So that’s a minus? What about the “shave less often” claim? Well, it does make you shave less often- but I think there’s some evil acid in this product that is eating my hair, since it itches like putting Nair on your skin, though it does smell quite nice.
What about the antiperspirant quality? I can’t say for everyone, but I’ve used cheap dollar store no-name antiperspirants that have blocked sweat better than Secret “Smooth Effects” appears to. As I type, I can feel sweat just dripping down my sides into my underwear, so while this product does block odor (I’m not that stinky anyhow), it appears to have no actual antiperspirant qualities whatsoever. That’s a shame, because I paid nearly $4 for this crap at Wal-Mart and am too cheap to replace it.
My thoughts on Secret “Smooth Effects?” Yes, it will make you shave less, smells nice, and has that click roller which makes it a semi-solid, which is decent for coverage but too easy to put on too much. But the downside is it’s not a strong antiperspirant by any means, or even a decent one, as it doesn’t control my sweating one bit. Not to mention the insane itching it causes which is similar to using the prescription antiperspirants without the sweating coverage. I say the Secret “Smooth Effects” works as promised in allowing you to shave less, but is compromising in actual sweating coverage and is really uncomfortable to wear. Save your money.
