My wife and daughter decided to go out and do some shopping Sunday while I was watching the Packers beat the Vikings on TV. They mainly went clothes shopping (my daughter keeps outgrowing hers) but did a bit of grocery shopping too.
One of the things they brought home with them was a package of Dark Chocolate Pecan Chesapeake Cookies from Pepperidge Farm. Since it had been a while since we had cookies in our house, I was definitely looking forward to trying them after dinner.
However, while they were decent, after trying them, I do feel these cookies weren’t worth the money my wife spent on them.
The Pepperidge Farm brand, at least in this area, is quite a bit more expensive than many other brands we have available to us. So, as a result of this, I do expect a bit more from them in terms of quality. And, unfortunately, these cookies just didn’t meet those expectations.
The cookies lost some points with me right away because they are harder cookies rather than the soft, chewy cookies I usually prefer to buy. This isn’t a huge deal and is more a matter of personal preference. I just never liked cookies that leave a lot of crumbs; especially since I tend to eat these while I’m walking around the house taking care of the kids.
As far as taste goes, I will say these weren’t bad. In fact, I loved the fact there were so many chocolate chips inside the cookies; enough for me to get at least one with every bite. However, while there were plenty of chocolate chips, I also noticed the quantity of pecans was a bit small.
The problem I have with the taste is, while not bad, it really wasn’t anything overly special. As I said before, we paid more for these cookies because, from the description, they sounded like they would be something different than the average cookie. Instead, they tasted a heck of a lot like every other chocolate chip cookie I have ever purchased. In other words, my wife and daughter could have spent less money and gotten the exact same thing.
If you are in the mood for cookies and happen to find these on sale (or don’t mind spending extra money), they are a brand that you will enjoy; assuming you like harder cookies. However, if you are on a budget, I would recommend avoiding this product and buying a cheaper brand.
